Hello everyone.
I have been doing some bits and bobs of searching on the internet about doing some self publishing later on this year. It's a bit of a minefield by the looks of things. I have found all manner of sites that will provide you with a digital publishing platform and also a few sites that will make books to order. Some places do both.
There are "brand" names like Lulu, Smashwords and the like, but I was wondering if any of you folk out there would be able to point me in the right direction and maybe share some experiences. I'd feel better about going into it with some first hand knowledge from any of you that have decided to go down that path.
Rock on,
W.

Well Buongiorno beautiful people! Today is the day, Mina Lobo of the brilliant blog Some Dark Romantic 's Resurrection Blogfest. Mina ha...
Spend a few months researching formatting for Amazon and any other platform you wish to use. One size does not fit all.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely pay for a professional cover. You will lose potential readers if the cover looks sloppy.
Get networking on twitter and Definately Goodreads to start building your author platform.
It is very empowering doing it by yourself, but it is also very hard work.
Good luck.
I wish I could be of help on the self-pub bit, but I have no experience with it and am no where near that stage yet. But I do wish you good luck and I'm excited for you. Sounds like you will have a very productive year!
ReplyDeleteThanks both for your comments. I'll be sure to do a whole bunch of research before I jump in with both feet!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
W.
Me again. I'm going to pass along the same info I left on Mina's site. Not sure if you're on fb but there's an Indies 4 Hire event going on now through the 27th hosted by author and blogger buddy Gwen Gardner, et al. Anyway, everyday they get together on fb and have a Q and A session about self pub. Anyone can join in and post questions. You may have already heard about it, but thought I mention it just in case. (:
ReplyDeleteCheers Elise! I'll be sure to check that out. I read your latest post with interest too. Glad you are back in the swing of things with your novel. All the best with that!
ReplyDeleteI plan to go down that path myself this year, Wayne (wrote a bit about this on my blog recently). I found this chick's blog, who is, I believe, from/in Eire Land. She's a fun read, has self-published, and even self-published a book on self-publishing! Her blog alone's been a great reference tool for me, so far (though I did buy her book): http://catherineryanhoward.com/
