Five Sentence Fiction

Hello there.

I follow a blog called Writer in Transit which is hosted by a smashing lady called Michelle Wallace. Once in a while she will post exercises to stretch your writing muscles and one of these is called Five Sentence Fiction which essentially does what it says on the tin. This weeks challenge can be found here.

My effort is about 6 comments from the top, but as I am a nice person, I'll plonk it here for your perusal.

Of late, things in town were getting worse and worse. The newcomers had been taking liberties with land, property and now the women. She knew that it was only a matter of time before they got to her. First with honeyed words that after refusal would turn to curses, knives and taking by force. She picked up the gun.

Its really enjoyable to just have a bash at something without getting too stressed about the content. I plan to have a go at further exercises. I'd have a squint at Michelle's site if you have time, it's full of great advice for new and experienced writers.

Cheers,

W.

  1. Hey Wayne, thanks for posting about Five Sentence Fiction and linking to my blog.
I love your piece. You've captured an entire story in five sentences. It has a sense of continuity and the perfect cliffhanger ending! You should really hop over to the host site and post your five sentences. You'll find lots of supportive writers in the FSF community.
    The site is www.lilliemcferrin.com

Five-sentence fiction is a great way to exercise the writing muscles and practise concise, tight writing.

  5. I picture a lawless wild west in your piece as I read. I'm glad she is not going to sit and take whatever is on its way. I love a fiesty heroine!
