Express Yourself - Post Four

Boungiorno all. It's time for the latest installment of Express Yourself, the weekly meme from Dani at Entertaining Interests and Jackie at Bouquet of Books. This weeks post is your top five monsters. There are all kinds of ways that this post can go, but I decided to go this way. Hope you enjoy.

Monster Number One : Tiamat

I'm going back to my Dungeons and Dragons days here. Yes, I was that 14 year old boy. To be honest, I'm still that 14 year old boy. A group of us would go to a friends house where he had a two storey garage to play hours upon hours of dice fuelled sword and sorcery action maybe every weekend for the whole of high school. Later as I got older, I got into other role playing games and board games, but D&D holds a special place in my heart as the first time I ever realised that anyone could tell a story as long as you had the imagination. Tiamat was the most fearsome of all dragons. The evil queen of dragonkind and with five heads! The mere sight of Tiamat was enough to send even the most hardy of warriors fleeing in abject terror. The idea of Tiamat filled my dreams on dark nights and struck fear into my heart for most of my teenage years.

Monster Number Two : The Foomf

The Foomf was the monster that lived under my stairs at home when I was little. If I was naughty, I would be threatened with the Foomf. It would take me away and lock me up. I blogged a bit more about it here. I know now that the Foomf was a way of my parents controlling me when I had a little too much sass. I don't think I could do it to my kids, but my folks are old school... And no, I didn't wear pigtails.

Monster Number Three : Davros, Leader of the Daleks

Here is another one from my youth. I grew up in the time when Doctor Who was Tom Baker, so around the late seventies / early eighties. Later Peter Davison  became The Doctor and Davros was one of the main enemies from the series then. Davros was the half man half Dalek leader from the future that commanded the entire Dalek army. Fearsome and cunning, evil incarnate. Just look at him, he's terrifying!

Monster Number Four : The Werewolf

Of late, there has been sundry literature, film and TV with reference to Werewolves and all kinds of other monster. Out of all of these scary creatures, my favourite is the wolf. Half man, half beast and all fury. I wanted to be one for a while as I thought that being able to run around the wilds once a month would be cool. Then though, I realised that soon there would be villagers with torches and pitchforks and silver bullets. So I decided to take up the guitar instead. I found you met more good looking girls that way.

Monster Number Five : The Zombie

Zombies are making somewhat of a comeback of late. That's good. The Undead are hella scary. What do you do against a monster that doesn't feel pain and wants to eat your brain? Run like all kinds of get out, that's what! I listen to a great drama podcast called We're Alive. You should have a go at it. The whole idea is great and the acting is out of this world. What's more, it's free!

*I got all my images by searching on Google (other search engines are available) I claim fair use, but if that upsets anyone, let me know and I'll take them down.

  1. I grew up with Doctor Who, so I'm glad to see Davros on this list. And what kid hasn't feared the monster under the stairs?

  7. I love those pictures!
Geez. It's a wonder that we've grown up as "normal, well-adjusted" adults (I think), after the childhood trauma we had to endure when our parents scared us with things like Foomf, and other equally terrifying creatures waiting to pounce on us...
