Five Sentence Fiction - Victory

Hi there. I'm quite enjoying this Five Sentence Fiction business. I'm planning to do lots of it as I find it's a really good way to practice capturing a moment in a few words. This weeks theme is: Victory, so here we go...

There was a horse in the offing. Phillipe had scored twenty eight from three arrows and sat on the barrel looking smug, exchanging casual conversation with the page about the saddle he would buy for his horse and eyeing Jean-Paul with obvious disdain. Jean-Paul stood on the line and loosed two arrows, scoring twenty and with that the crowd were in uproar, some in support and some against him. With Phillipe stood up now, looking nervous, Jean-Paul aimed again and breathed in, shutting out the cacophony, becoming the striker and the struck. He released the bowstring and a with a little smile Jean-Paul knew it was he, not his older brother, who would be buying a saddle today.

There, hope you liked reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Be sure to visit Lillie McFerrin's site and check out the other contributions, there are some great writers there.

Rock on,

W.

  1. Definitely not pedestrian, Wayne! Subject matter is completely new to me and you've used one of my favourite words: cacophony.
