Five Sentence Fiction - Awkward

Here it is lovelies. This week it is Awkward.

So this was it; after several weeks of courting, wooing and blatant flattery she had finally said yes to dinner.

A minor setback was that he had made the impression he could cook quite well and after the initial panic had spent most of the day preparing a three course meal using several recipe books and untold phone conversations with his mother, sister and aunt on the intricacies of measuring, boiling and how to work the oven.

His Maitre D' friend had even lent him some great linen and table ware from the restaurant he worked in, so he laid the table, light candles, put the Cava in the bucket and put the melon in port starter down on crushed ice to keep them cool.

As she purred over (he was impressed at himself too!) his culinary skills, he sashayed into the kitchen to bring out the piece de resistance; the main course.

Coming back in he placed the rack of lamb on the table and it was then, just as he thought that this was completely in the bank, she decided to tell him that she was vegetarian.
